Weekly Insider Tips - March 10, 2025

Hey everyone, it's Mark, and this week the market remains challenging with a clear downtrend. We briefly saw a shift to yellow, but we’re back in the red. There’s been a lot of selling, especially following the jobs report. My market timing system had me move mostly to cash a couple of weeks ago, and I remain cautious with some hedges in place. The major indices are all below key moving averages, signaling further downside risk. Certain stocks, like MicroStrategy, appear to be in a bottoming process, while others, like Tesla and NVIDIA, are showing continued weakness. The key takeaway? Respect the market signals, keep your powder dry, and don’t try to pick the bottom. A green market will come, but patience is key.

Market Trends & Technical Analysis:

This week, the markets have continued their downtrend, with all major indices showing signs of weakness:

  • NASDAQ & S&P 500: Both have broken below their 200-day moving averages, a concerning signal that suggests more downside risk if they don’t recover soon.

  • Dow Jones Industrial Average: Not quite below the 200-day moving average yet but still trending downward, which is a bearish signal.

  • Dow Jones Transport Index: Reflects economic activity, and the chart suggests further declines, potentially down to 14,700.

  • Volatility Index (VIX): Spiking upward, indicating heightened fear and more money flowing out of the market.

  • Banking Index: Shows consumer weakness, with the sector dropping below the 200-day moving average. The housing market also reflects a weak consumer base.

Individual Stocks Analysis:

  • Apple: Holding up relatively well around its 50-day moving average, with some resilience in a weak market.

  • NVIDIA: Below both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, with a looming death cross. The stock is still in a late-stage base with more sellers than buyers.

  • Tesla: One of my biggest holdings in the past, but I moved to cash as weakness set in. The stock remains in a significant downtrend, with multiple red bars and heavy selling volume.

  • MicroStrategy: Appears to be in a bottoming process and may consolidate between $250-$320 before making a move higher. This stock remains heavily tied to Bitcoin.

  • Coinbase: Struggling, living below its 200-day moving average and continuing to show weakness.

  • Alphabet (Google): Gapped down a month ago and now remains below the 100-day moving average, another sign of ongoing weakness.

Key Takeaways:

  1. The Market is in a Red Phase: We are in a confirmed downtrend. This isn’t the time to go all-in.

  2. Don’t Try to Pick the Bottom: Catching the bottom 5% is like winning the lottery—highly unlikely. Instead, focus on capturing the 80-90% middle range.

  3. Cash is a Position: Being mostly in cash or hedging against downside risk is a smart move in a market like this.

  4. Some Stocks are Holding Up, But Most Are Weak: Apple is showing some strength, but NVIDIA, Tesla, and Alphabet are in continued downtrends.

  5. Patience is Key: The market will eventually turn green again—whether that’s in a few days or a month, we have to wait for the signals.

Conclusion:

Right now, we’re in a tough market environment with selling pressure dominating. While some individual stocks may show resilience, the broader market trend remains negative. Respecting the red phase and avoiding the temptation to pick a bottom is crucial. Stay defensive, keep cash ready, and be patient—because when the market turns, there will be great opportunities ahead. Thanks for tuning in!

Current Market Condition:

The market remains in a clear downtrend, with all major indices showing weakness. The NASDAQ and S&P 500 have fallen below their 200-day moving averages, signaling potential further downside. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is trending downward, while the Dow Jones Transport Index suggests economic slowing. Volatility is increasing, and the banking sector is struggling, reflecting consumer weakness. This isn’t a market to be aggressive in—cash remains a strong position, and attempting to pick a bottom is risky. The key is to respect the market signals, avoid unnecessary risk, and wait for a confirmed shift before re-entering with confidence.
